Founder, Jan Hendrik Kiela, starts up operations in 1939 at Kerdijkstraat in Rotterdam, manufacturing stainless steel meat platters and deep fat frying units.

In the 1950s, Kiela starts manufacturing furniture for hairdressing salons. Owing to the expansion of the company, it moves to new premises at De Kerkweg in Driebruggen.

In the 1960s, the company continues to grow, owing to the increasing demand for modern bucket seats. Kiela decides to renovate its premises at De Kerkweg and the business premises at De Groendijck in Driebruggen are also purchased. During this time, Ger and John Kiela take over the management of the company.

Kiela decides to target the market for hairdressing salon interiors in the Netherlands using one of its own companies. The subsidiary, Inline, is founded and a modern showroom built at De Kerkweg in Driebruggen. To promote export operations, in 1986 the company attends the international hairdressing trade fair, Cosmoprof, in Bologna, Italy, for the first time.

Kiela becomes a leading player on the international market. As a manufacturer of exclusive hairdressing salon furniture, it works hard on its own image and innovative product concepts are developed.

In 2007, the company is ultramodern. The premises at De Groendijck have been extended by 6,200m2, giving a total floor area of 16,000m2. Five members of the family are currently actively involved in the business: Jan Hendrik and Willem Kiela (management of Kiela Metaalwarenfabriek), Evelien Kiela (supervisory director, Kiela Beheer), Johan Kiela (ICT & logistics), and Michel Kiela (sales executive).
